This is the month of November and I really hope you’ve been enjoying what we’re doing and sharing with you every month. For November, we’ve chosen the theme of communication. We are living in a time where there’s a lot of stuff, more than ever- daily downloads from Washington D.C., daily things that we have to keep up with on our own phones. However, the real idea of communication, to me, is how you are communicating with yourself.
For the first week of November, the intention is speaking- the art of clearly communicating your intention. This is one of my favorite quotes from Audrey Hepburn:
“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” -Audrey Hepburn
It can be challenging to overcome the fear of speaking out, not even just the fear of public speaking, but also the fear of speaking your truth. I think one of the ways you can easily overcome this is with a practice I started once I began to take a bigger role in my life of taking the stage and communicating. The practice is looking into the mirror and looking into your own eyes and speaking your truth to yourself. I’ve actually turned it into a very powerful meditation practice. I sometimes even do this as I am looking into the mirror to do my makeup. Instead of just admiring myself, I look into the mirror and speak, “I am Donna D’Cruz, good morning.” It could be something as simple as that, but as you start that practice and start doing a little bit every day, you’ll be amazed at what comes out- it’s all the stuff that’s already in you. So that’s a great first exercise. Tell me what you think of this and let me know if you try it.
